Protest in Burma » Defying the Myanmar military junta’s warnings against any further mass protest, nearly 50,000 Buddhist monks and an equal number of civilians swarmed the streets of Yangon and other centres on Tuesday.It was as if a sea of humanity had surged on to the streets. But the junta stayed its hand and did not order crackdown, which was implicit in the warnings issued on Monday following a similar demonstration over economic and political hardship.

Honduras protests continue, as Zelaya visits Chile » Thousands of Hondurans supporting ousted President Manuel Zelaya protested in the nation's capital on Thursday, as a U.S. diplomat prepared to meet representatives of the government that has been in power since a military coup.Zelaya, who was rousted from his home at gunpoint in June and flown into exile by Honduran soldiers, spent the day in Chile, his latest stop on a Latin American tour he hopes will solidify backing from the region's governments.
Hero of Iran » Ahmad Batebi (born 1977 in Shiraz, Iran) is an Iranian student who has been imprisoned since the Iranian Student Protests in July 1999. During the protests in the areas surrounding Tehran University, Batebi held up a bloodied shirt belonging to a fellow student who had been beaten by the Basij paramilitaries. The image, pictured right, spread quickly and ended up on the cover of The Economist magazine.
Peace camp protest by residents » Residents living near the Faslane nuclear submarine base have held a demonstration against the ongoing peace protests there. People in Garelochead claim children have been prevented from going to nearby schools during recent anti-Trident protests. About 50 residents marched to the peace camp. Fathers defiant over arrests » Members of Fathers 4 Justice (F4J) say they are prepared to spend time behind bars as their national campaign of civil disruption enters its second week. About 40 members of the fathers' rights group met in Shropshire over the weekend to organise their next series of protests.
